Dhanalakota Nageshwar (b. 1971)

Dhanalakota Nageshwar is an acclaimed artist who continues the 400-year-old art, the Cheriyal paintings. Hailing from the small village of Cheriyal in Telangana region in Andhra Pradesh, the paintings depict scenes from the epics of the Mahabharata, Ramayana and other religious texts. The Cheriyal paintings are associated with vivid natural colors, bold outlines and distinct facial expressions and animal figures. 

The painting depicts the nine day Bathukamma Festival held in honor of the goddess Bathukamma.
